Shopping Annoyances

Hello again.

I though I would write today from the bowling alley.  Yes I am bowling as I blog.  I have two occurrences of something that just annoys the heck out of me.  I don't know how you feel but when I walk into a store, I expect to be rung up by a real live person.  I understand that from a purely dollars and cents standpoint it is more cost efficient to have one person monitoring 4 or more registers than it is to have people managing each one.

However, that doesn't make me feel any better to know that the company is doing better.  I don't know \how the folks who normally run the registers feel.  Maybe they like not having to deal with some customers.  Having previously worked in retail, I can understand where that sentiment might come from.  I would posit though, if they have that attitude, maybe they shouldn't be in that line of work.

The two occurrences for me came on Friday and then today.  On Friday, I had to run to the grocery store sometime between 6:30 and 7:00 in the morning to get some bread.  The ONLY registers open were the self serve.  I didn't have a choice.  I guess that is what I am most upset about.

Today, I went to exchange my empty propane tank for a full one.  Had it not been for the fact that the machine outside wasn't programmed to deal with gift cards, I would not have interacted with anyone at the store!  If I want to have no human interaction, I order it on the web.  Propane I probably cannot do online.  The same store where I went for the propane actually makes it very inconvenient to use a register staffed by a living being.  The self check-out is right near the main entrance.  However, the registers that have real people are 150 - 200 feet farther away at the secondary exit.  Mind you, you also have to walk back that additional  distance to get back to your vehicle.

What is bad on my part is that I am venting here instead of telling the store managers. I should have found a store manager and expressed my feelings.  I don't mean an "in your face" kind of expression, that is not my style.  I simply mean calmly and maturely telling the manager that I would really like to have a reasonable option to work with or be helped by their register staff.  If I choose not to,  However, I didn't have the choice and I guess that is what angers me the most.

At Paul Rogers Photography, you will always be dealing with me, or at least have the option of dealing with me.  We do put some images online to allow out of town family or folks from and event to order.  But you have the choice.  If you want to order images at midnight in your pajamas, online is the right choice for you or you can even email us.  If you want to talk to us and give us your order over the phone feel free to call.  If you prefer to order your images face to face, that is how relationships are made.

Until next time...

Paul
