WPPI (part 2)
In case you didn't know, Paul Rogers Photography was chosen to do the school portraits for two different schools for the 2007-2008 season. The first one came about after a successful effort at photographing the 2007 graduation ceremony. The second came about because the parent of a student at the first school works at another school where the yearbook photographer didn't show up!
These were both learning opportunities in creating forms, handling lots of orders and getting it all turned around in fairly short order. Happily there have been no problems reported. In fact, folks who worked with Paul Rogers Photography directly are willing to be references for other schools that we contact.
One of the manual process that will go much easier this year is making all the heads the same size and getting them to all line up. I apologize as this my get a little to photo-geeky for some of you. Anyway, a company called Crop-Lines was a vendor at WPPI. I had previously been recommended to them by another school photographer at an Arizona PPA meeting. Crop-Lines installs focusing screens that have special lines etched on to them. The screens I purchased have markings for the chin and the top of the head. If I use those, all the heads in the yearbook will be the same size and be at the same height without the manual labor I had to do this year. The wonderful thing was I was able to get this done at WPPI. Not only were they willing to sell me screens at WPPI, every vendor was ready to sell their wares, but they also did the installation during the convention.
Paul Rogers Photography is looking to do more schools for the 2008-2009 school year. Our primary focus will be on the smaller charter schools with 600 students or less. So if you work at such a school, or know people who do, let them know that there is an outstanding school photographer in Gilbert that would love to meet with them.
Until next time,
Paul
