AT&T Upgrade Policy

Hello again,

So while I was spending time with my Airman, we went into the Apple store. This is not as bad as it sounds. I didn't buy anything!  We looked at some software and I showed him the Mac Pro I want to get one day. As we were about to head out one of the store employees asked if they could help. I said I ...

From the road

Hello again,

As I write this we are driving on I-10 from San Antonio to El Paso on our way back home. I have just spent a wonderful 4 days with all my kids together again. It is amazing to see the transformation that has taken place while my son completed Basic Military Training (BMT). He has definitely done a lot of growing up.

A new season of life

Hello again,

Currently I am in San Antonio, TX.  Why did I go to San Antonio?  The answer is that on November 17th 2009 my son was sworn in to the Air Force and today he graduated from being a "trainee" to being an "Airman".  Though the weather wasn't what I had hoped for, I praise God that it wasn't pouring down rain like was forecast.

This is the official start of a new season in my life.  I now have a child in the military and it is likely ...

It has been awhile

Hello again,

It has been a LOOOOOONG time since I have done anything on this blog.  I wonder if I still have any followers.  If I do, you are to be commended, or you need to get a life (just kidding).  When I logged in, I was informed that it had be 162 days since my last post.  That is several eons in Internet time.

Lots of things have happened since my last post.  My oldest daughter started her freshman year at NAU and turned 18 in November.  My son ...

Going home (for a visit)

Hello again,

We started our family vacation. After a stop over at my wonderful sister-in-law's home, where we slept for the night, we drove on to Castro Valley. For the unfamiliar, Castro Valley is a small town on the East side of the San Francisco Bay. As of the 2000 census, Castro Valley was the fifth most populous unincorporated area in California, and the twenty-third in the United States.

Since 1997 when I left, I think I have only been back through Castro Valley once. ... << MORE >>

Triathlon

Hello again,

Several months ago I attended a marketing seminar hosted by Tyler Garnes @PhotoMarketer I met and another Christian photographer, Stephen of Flowing Desert Photography @FlowingDesert.  A few months ago Stephen called with an interesting business idea.  Basically he is trying to establish a presence in the sports photography niche.  Not the team and individual type of sports photography but photographing triathlons.  You can read Stephen's story on his blog.

So when Stephen approached me about shooting with him I was a little reluctant.  The idea is to photograph the event, put the images online, and then ...<< MORE >>

Wedding disaster....the rest of the story

Hello again,

I was checking twitter today during lunch and Cicely (@LifeDesign) was looking for tweets about wedding disasters where the professionals had "saved the day". If she mentioned what she was using this for, I missed that tweet. Anyway I told her in under 140 characters a story of how Paul Rogers Photography was able to preserve precious wedding memories. You can read her blog post The ABC's of Wedding Planning :: D stands for Disaster Relief to see how other wedding professionals saved the day.

Hello again,

What do you do to connect with friends online?  Do you email and chat or do you do more?  Here I told you about my first foray into facebook.  I have recently signed up on twitter, also referred to as “the twitter”.  If you are on twitter, you can follow me paulrogersphoto.  I am still trying to wrap my mind on how twitter will be useful to me personally and Paul Rogers Photography as a business.  The same person who got me started on facebook also  suggested twitter.  If he has too many more suggestions, I am ...<< MORE >>

On the road....

Hello again,

I know it has been quite awhile since my last post.  Life has been really busy around the studio and with several opportunities to grow my patience, this blog has kind of suffered.

Anyway, our road trip to Disney World is underway.  We left later than we wanted to on Friday, life happens.  We got to El Paso, TX on our first leg.  We made a stop before entering Las Cruces, NM and I tried to take some pictures of Las Cruces at night.  When I get a chance to look at them, I will probably post  them here.   Right ...<< MORE >>

Early Christmas gift

Hello again,

As I write this I am getting ready for two family portrait sessions and a whole lot of cooking and some eating.  Tomorrow is Thanksgiving here in the United States.  We have family from out of town who will be joining us to make the day even more special.

Personally I have no intention of going anywhere near a store on "black friday".  I will be busy processing images from the two family sessions and shopping really isn't my thing.....unless it is for camera equipment.  But that is a whole other topic.

Between now and January 1, 2009, if you ...<< MORE >>

An interesting turn of events

Hello again,

It is Sunday and today hasn't gone like I planned from the very beginning.  I had been planning to go to the Boyce Thompson Arboretum with a friend to shoot fall foliage and just to check the place out.  Last night when I went to confirm details with my friend via facebook, she was gone.  I don't know if she just deleted here account, or if someone at facebook deleted it for her but she is gone from facebook.

Instead I slept in until 8am or so.  I went downstairs and checked my email.  I saw there was ...<< MORE >>

A good party

Hello again,

Well I had a first last night.  My first college party!  On facebook I noticed that a couple of my facebook friends were attending a Young Life ASU party.  On a complete lark, I sent a message to the party coordinator asking if they needed a photographer.  After several facebook messages back and forth working out the details, it was agreed that I would be photographing the party!  Another first was that this party was being held on the roof top of the Grigio apartments!

The very first snag came because I didn't look at a calendar.  The coordinator Juile ...<< MORE >>

What is wedding photography worth?

Hello again,

After a Facebook friend, Emily of Your Heart's Desire, wrote a blog post titled "Friends and Family Vs. Professional Vendors" I thought I should finally get around to a topic that is near and dear to me aas a photographer.  That is the disparity of what folks are willing to pay for something that they will have forever vs something they will have for a day.

I receive leads for brides looking for photographers and one I saw was just the impetus I needed to write this post.  The couple was expecting to have 350 people at their ...<< MORE >>

Wonderful newborn session

Several weeks back I had a wonderful newborn session with Nevaeh and her mother.  Nevaeh is a beautiful little girl who was about 5 weeks old when we did our session.  I put in to practice some of the things I learned at Sandy Puc's Bellies & Babies seminar.  I will try some more things in the next session.

There are several things I learned in this session that I will employ in future sessions to make them even better.  In case you are wondering, as I was, I asked about the name Nevaeh.  Her mother chose the name ...<< MORE >>

I REALLY need a new computer

Hello again,

I have come to realize that it is time for a computer upgrade.  My desktop system is a 6yr old, 2.2 Ghz Pentium 4 computer with 2GB of RAM.  It was a blazing fast computer when I bought it and it is still plenty fast for email, web-browsing and office type tasks.

However, when it comes to processing images, it just doesn't have the horsepower to handle the image files.  Consequently, I have been looking at new computers.  My very first computer was a TI-994/A.  Anyone remember that computer?  I bought that shortly after graduating from high school.  My next ...<< MORE >>

While it wasn't unexpected, my son has left for his internship at Disney World.  He left on August 19th.  It was hard seeing him go past the first check point and then on to security where we couldn't see him anymore.  Our first scare was that he had forgotten his phone.  He was charging it before we left for the airport but we had this sinking feeling that the left it at home.  We tried calling and texting but he didn't answer.  We were still in the airport at this time but he was past the checkpoint and there ...<< MORE >>

It's amazing

Hello again,

Just when I was starting to doubt my venture into the maternity and baby markets, God stepped in. Now this wasn't the parting of the Red Sea kind of stepping in but an opening of doors that only God could have orchestrated. Some of you may be saying that it was just a coincidence. I guess that could be an explanation. However, there are been many more "coincidences" when I pray about things and let (or try to let I am still working on it) God take control.

Working on becoming certified

There is a suggested reading list for this certification and I have started down this path.  I have started reading the book "Light: Science and Magic: An Introduction to Photographic Lighting".  I also purchased "Basic Studio Lighting: The Photographer's Complete Guide to Professional Techniques" and another book called "Photography".

In case you didn't know...

The intent of this blog is to provide a way for Paul Rogers Photography, and myself in particular, to let friends, clients and potential clients learn a little more about the business and the people behind the business.

As of this post, there is one subscriber to this blog.  Every time I publish an entry it shows up in their reader or email automatically.  Even if no one subscribes, I know that there are people reading the blog because the company hosting the blog keeps track of how the articles read.

What you may not know is that if you agree, disagree, or want to ask questions, you can comment on any of the entries.  I will warn you that your comments will not show up automatically.  I want to ensure, that the comments are not some sort of spam and that this remains a family friendly blog.  Therefore I must approve each and every comment that is written.

You have my word that provided the comment is relevant and family friendly (no profanity,  or anything else illegal or in bad taste), I will publish them.  I would like to encourage conversations rather than a "lecture" where I do all the talking, blogging or typing.

If you have any questions about photography, the photography business, or even about me personally, feel free to send them to questions@memoriesforalltime.com.  While they may not show up in a blog post, I promise to respond to each legitimate question I receive.  (No I don't want to get rich quick nor do I want to order ANY prescriptions over the internet).

Now as a former client of Paul Rogers Photography, who do you turn to if you need, say a plumber, or a mortgage consultant, or even legal support?  Why Paul Rogers Photography of course. ... << MORE >>

WPPI (part 1)

Hello again,

For the non-photographers reading this, and even some photographers, you may be asking what is WPPI?  WPPI stands for Wedding & Portrait Photographers International.   It is a yearly convention and trade show for photographers. Where is the first place you would think of for a gathering of over 10,000 photographers from around the world....Las Vegas. This was the final year at the Paris/Bally's hotels. Apparently the convention has outgrown the space available.

Anyway, there were MANY classes on many different aspects of photography and ... << MORE >>

One down ... one to go

Just a quick note regarding my surgery. It seems to have gone well. The tear was worse when they got in there than appeared on the MRI. They also confirmed that I have the beginnings of arthritis in my knee.

But I am home and able to get around on crutches. At the moment I am not in any pain. However I am guessing there will be pain tomorrow as the drugs in my system wear off.

I will most likely be having the other knee ... << MORE >>

Welcome aboard

Welcome to another entry. I am really excited today. My wife, who is the business manager, met with a mutual friend who is going to do great things for Paul Rogers Photography. Gayle is friendly, outgoing, easy to talk to and a great negotiator. In short, she is the perfect person to make the initial contact with potential new clients.

It was an outstanding meeting with lots of ideas about the kinds of potential clients to meet and talk with. Gayle brought lots of ideas to the meeting that we hadn't contemplated. If she ... << MORE >>

Upcoming surgery

Good morning,

Well the date for my first knee surgery is coming up soon. In fact it is on Monday the 7th. I have "torn and scruffy" cartilage in both knees. I am having arthroscopic surgery on the right knee on Monday to "fix" it. It is possible that once the right knee is repaired, the left knee won't need to be. I will probably end up having surgery on both knees.

What this means is that I won't be able to do what I was created to do, ... << MORE >>

Josten's Certified Photographer!

Are you on the school yearbook staff?  Do you use Josten's for your yearbooks?  Are you looking for a new school photographer for the upcoming year?  If so, you might want to take a look at the Josten's certified photographer list. There are only five Josten's certified photographers in Arizona on the list and only ONE in Gilbert. That one is Paul Rogers Photography.

Last school year Paul Rogers Photography made a strategic decision to start offering school photography. We started out with one school, of about 550 students and ... << MORE >>

Looking for pregnant ladies

Welcome to another day in the life of Paul Rogers Photography. I have made the decision to try to expand the business to include maternity portrait sessions. I did one last year with Crystal and Alan and I was really pleased with the results. More importantly, Crystal and Alan had a hard time limiting their choices. I will be putting those up in a gallery for all to see in the next few days.

I would like to get some additional maternity images to build up my portfolio. To do that I need ... ŸကĀ퀐ƒŸ&<< MORE >>

New Wedding Packages

I wanted to take a few moments to tell you that the wedding packages offered by Paul Rogers Photography have been updated. Previously we had specific images, like a framed 16x20, 6 8x10 prints and 96 thank you cards, and specific albums for each package. These have been restructured to be a credit amount towards and album and a credit amount towards images. That way if you want a 30x40 framed image of the bride and groom, you can just order that instead of having to "exchange" some prints for the one you want. ... << MORE >>

Welcome!

Welcome to the first entry of Paul Rogers Photography blog. The plan is to keep folks up to date on what is happing with the photography business as well as items that will help you get to know me better.

I will be publishing photo tips and tricks as I come across them.

I make no promises about getting this updated on a daily basis. I am going to try to accomplish that but I am not going to make promises that I cannot ... << MORE >>
